Bellmer Kufferath installs sludge dewatering system in Peru - Successful start-up at Trupal
The Peruvian paper producer Trupal S.A. has two paper mills in the cities of Lima and Trujillo. Trujillo produces test liner and corrugating medium paper based on Sugar Cane Bagasse and recycled fibre. Measures for modernisation and expansion of production capacity have included environmental impact reduction. This will be achieved through partial substitution of fossil fuels with biomass in the CFB boiler, thus reducing carbon footprint.
Part of the biomass fuel will originate from the sludge generated from the stock preparation plant and paper machine effluent. After research of best available technologies the customer chose a sludge dewatering system from Bellmer Kufferath Machinery, whose AKUPRESS BX screw presses can achieve the maximum dryness possible with mechanical dewatering.

The plant arrived on site in April 2014 and was started up in June. It consists of a flocculation reactor, an AKSE S 175/03 disc thickener and an AKUPRESS BX 625 LL-H screw press. Starting from an inlet consistency of 3%, up to 38 bone dry metric tons per day (BDMTPD) of sludge are dewatered to more than 50 % dry solids. This makes co-firing in the coal boiler an easy task.

Trupal has also invested in increased capacity at its Lima mill. Through the French stock preparation designer Kadant Lamort, Bellmer Kufferath has supplied two disc thickeners for fibre stock, with start-up planned later this year. The AKSE F 300/05 and AKSE F 175/06 thickeners can treat a total of 400 BDMTPD.
