Quality improvement at Carl Macher, Brunnenthal
Carl Macher GmbH & Co. KG is part of the Kunert Group. Quality has always been a top priority for core production at the company’s Brunnenthal facility. Numerous rebuilds have been undertaken against a background of increased production of higher-grammage products. In addition to quality improvement, the aim has been to optimize the raw material mix for the highest possible efficiency in terms of energy, raw materials and other supplies. Carl Macher chose modernization specialist Bellmer to achieve the optimum solution to these complex requirements.

With the above objectives in mind, the wire section of PM 3 was updated with roll and frame elements and the first press was replaced with a new TURBOPress shoe press. The TURBOPress complements an existing shoe press from another supplier. These presses are operated in tandem and provide the required improvements in dewatering for higher weights. The counter rolls of both presses are interchangeable, which allows cost-effective stocking of spares. A common belt-changing device for both shoe presses is similarly efficient for the press section.
The existing dryer section was extended to achieve the higher drying capacity needed, and there has been a switch to silent-drive. A new TURBOReeler pope reel for handling larger roll diameters completes the scope of delivery. It is equipped with the user-friendly BELLDur winding hardness control and the automatic BELLCheck diagnostics system.

The extensive engineering services were also performed by Bellmer.
The start-up of the modernized plant was implemented smoothly, on schedule and to the great satisfaction of Carl Macher’s team in late November.
