Smurfit Kappa, Mexico: Successful start-up of headbox TURBOBladeJetter
Smurfit Kappa, the leading Mexican manufacturer of medium and linerboard, ordered a secondary hydraulic headbox TURBOBladeJetter with cross-flow distributor TURBOCone for its Cerro Gordo mill.

The aim of this step was to achieve both better paper quality as well as an increase in production. Linerboard is made on PM 5 in the range of 120 – 300 g/m² with a production speed of 800 m/min and a working width of 5,940 mm. The TURBOCone cross-flow distributor features equal distribution of the stock flow across the entire inlet width of the headbox.

The hydraulic TURBOBladeJetter is designed to provide equal CD profile and excellent paper sheet formation. The flexible blades ensure an optimum mixing ratio throughout the headbox. The headbox was manu-factured at Bellmer’s headquarters in Niefern where, at the beginning of July, a delegation from the Mexican customer visited for acceptance testing of their headbox.

After successful start-up, the customer was completely satisfied with the execution of the rebuild project carried out by the German-Spanish team, which successfully hit the improved paper formation target.
