Mpact South Africa and Bellmer – an intensive partnership
After 37 years of operation it’s a WinklePress again
For many years now, Mpact Ltd. – South Africa’s largest packaging manufacturer – has been trusting in Bellmer’s quality technology not only for paper production but also for separation. Since 2007, a WinklePress™ WPN-K 2 X has been doing an excellent job dewatering the paper sludge of Piet Retief mill, according to its operators.

The all-time longevity record is held by the WinklePress™ installed at the Felixton site: Ordered by Mpact back in 1978, this unit for dewatering the plant’s mixed sludge illustrates that a high level of durability is a defining characteristic of Bellmer products. While this particular WinklePress™ is still in operation, it has come to the end of its technical life and thus an upgrade of the effluent treatment plant at Felixton became necessary. Following a tender process, Bellmer was awarded the contract to supply a WinklePress™ WPN-G 4 X, provided with a high-pressure section for dewatering of mixed sludge (bagasse pulp and recycled fiber). Thanks to this state-of-the-art sludge dewatering installation, it is now possible to achieve the highest dry contents at lowest operational costs. The plant successfully started operation by the beginning of September, and final dry solids content and solids loading rate are already slightly higher than originally guaranteed. The Felixton team including Veneil Sewnarain, Junior Process Engineer and Teboho Nkholise, Mechanical Reliability Engineer, is very pleased with its new WinklePress™ and the operating results achieved.
