Bellmer VAAHTO awarded major rebuild of Kotkamills PM 2 in Finland
Bellmer Vaahto Paper Machinery Oy has received a major order valued at more than 30 million Euro to convert the wet-end section of PM 2 at Kotkamills in Finland for multi-layer board production. Bellmer Vaahto will supply TURBO-series headboxes, a press section equipped with modern TURBO-shoe-press technology and an extension of the dryer section. The scope of supply also includes short circulations and hood and ventilation equipment as well as installation, training and start-up services.
Most of the equipment will be manu-factured in Bellmer Vaahto´s workshop in Hollola, Finland, although the press section will come from Bellmer Group´s main location in Niefern, in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Kotkamills’ PM 2 has a wire width of 5.97 m and currently produces coated mechanical magazine papers (MFC). After modernization the machine will have an annual maximum capacity of 400,000 tons of barrier board and folding boxboard grades.
Barrier board is typically used in direct food contact and non-food packaging applications in end-use sectors such as frozen food, fresh food, detergent, pet food, menu trays and lids, cosmetics, beverages and tobacco. Kotkamills is located in the city of Kotka on the south cost of Finland, 130 km east of Helsinki. The rebuilt machine will start in the second half of 2016.
