Highest dry solids contents with Bellmer Kufferath at Khanna Paper
Khanna Paper Mills is based in the beautiful city of Amritsar in the North West of India, near the Pakistani Border, home of the world famous Golden Temple (a holy site for Sikhs).
A producer of board, newsprint, printing and writing paper, based on 100% waste paper, the mill follows a very strict ‘Go Green’ policy and the recent project which we have executed with them is part of that. It was our job to deal with up to 132 bone dry tons of DIP and clarifier sludge per day. The sludge will be provided by an existing gravity table and the target is to achieve dewatering to the highest possible dryness of > 60%. Bellmer Kufferath managed to secure this project against severe competition from all over the world because it could offer the highest achievable dryness using its unique movable screen basket design. The scope of supply covers the delivery of one of the biggest screw presses ever supplied to India, AKUPRESS BX 1100 LL-H, including instrumentation and control system.
The screw press was started up in March, in one of the smoothest and fastest start-ups Bellmer Kufferath has seen in its long history. This achievement was helped by the fact that the customer did such a great job in preparing the site and providing highly qualified staff. The machine was up and running in 10 days after customs clearance. The customer’s remark on the Take-Over Certificate, ‘Excellent Machine’, we think says it all.
With this project at KPM together with an earlier supply in a wood-based mill in northern India and an order from a baggasse and wheat straw-based mill, Bellmer Kufferath has covered all major raw materials being used in the Indian pulp and paper industry. At KPM and all our other references, the aim of installing the machines is to use dried sludge as fuel in the boiler. Together with our Indian customers, we are working for Mother Earth.
